Why Roy Hunter Is an Author Every Hypnotherapist Should Know

If you’ve been following my work for a while, you already know that I enjoy recommending books that have made a real impact on the field of hypnosis. Today, I’d like to introduce one of the authors I truly respect—Roy Hunter.

If you’re not familiar with his work yet, I highly recommend looking him up. His books deserve a place on the bookshelf of every serious hypnotist and hypnotherapist.

Hypnosis for Inner Conflict Resolution – A Classic on Parts Therapy

One of Roy Hunter’s best-known books is Hypnosis for Inner Conflict Resolution, which focuses on Parts Therapy—a therapeutic approach designed to resolve inner conflicts by working with different aspects, or “parts,” of the client’s personality.

Roy has written several outstanding books on hypnosis, regression, and therapeutic techniques. His writing is practical, easy to understand, and based on decades of clinical experience.

If you’re building your professional library, this is certainly one of the books worth owning.

When Roy Hunter Visited Slovenia

My appreciation for Roy Hunter goes beyond his books.

In 2014, I had the privilege of inviting him to Slovenia to teach a two-day seminar. It was a fantastic event, and besides the training itself, we had the opportunity to show him around our beautiful country.

Roy is not only an excellent teacher but also a genuinely kind and humble person. His visit remains one of the highlights of my professional career.

The seminar attracted participants from Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia, creating a truly international learning experience.

The Response from My Students

One thing I remember very clearly happened after the seminar.

Many of my students contacted me to tell me they had immediately started using Parts Therapy in their practice—and they loved it.

They were impressed by how effective the method was, especially for certain types of clients and specific issues.

Their enthusiasm confirmed what Roy had been teaching throughout the seminar.

My Personal Opinion on Parts Therapy

Although I have successfully used Parts Therapy myself, I have to be honest:

It is not my personal favorite approach.

Not because it doesn’t work—it absolutely does.

For me, it feels a little too analytical. The process requires a structured dialogue with different parts of the client’s mind and involves quite a bit of cognitive processing.

Over the years, I’ve developed other approaches that fit my personality and therapeutic style better.

I’ve always believed that your therapeutic approach should feel as though it’s written on your skin. Every hypnotherapist eventually develops their own style, and not every technique will resonate equally with everyone.

That doesn’t make the technique any less valuable.

Where Parts Therapy Really Shines

One of the most interesting conversations I had with Roy happened outside the classroom.

He explained that Parts Therapy can be particularly effective for:

  • Weight loss
  • Smoking cessation
  • Breaking unwanted habits
  • Resolving inner conflicts
  • Certain emotionally complex issues

After hearing his explanations, I decided to use the method more extensively myself.

I have to admit—the results were excellent.

A Seminar I’ll Never Forget

The seminar itself was unforgettable for another reason.

Roy taught in English.

At the same time, I was translating his lectures into:

  • Slovenian
  • Italian
  • Croatian

Imagine doing that for two full days, from around 9:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening.

By the end of each day, my brain felt completely exhausted.

It was one of the most demanding seminars I’ve ever organized—but also one of the most rewarding.

I also had the pleasure of working alongside my longtime friend Vittorio Ponti, with whom I organized hypnosis trainings for Italian-speaking students for nearly ten years before the COVID pandemic.

Those were wonderful years filled with passionate students and unforgettable experiences.

Don’t Collect Books—Collect Great Authors

I’d like to finish with a piece of advice I often give my own students.

Don’t focus on collecting books.

Focus on collecting great authors.

Today, almost anyone can publish a book. With artificial intelligence, it’s easier than ever to generate content about hypnosis.

But truly original thinkers—the people who have spent decades working with clients, refining techniques, and contributing something meaningful to the profession—are much rarer.

In my opinion, there are only a handful of authors whose work consistently delivers real value.

Roy Hunter is undoubtedly one of them.

Final Thoughts

If you’re serious about hypnosis or hypnotherapy, I highly recommend exploring Roy Hunter’s work.

Even if Parts Therapy doesn’t become your primary therapeutic approach, it can broaden your perspective, deepen your understanding of inner conflicts, and give you another valuable tool to help your clients.

In future articles, I’ll continue sharing more books and authors that I believe every professional hypnotherapist should know. After all, investing in quality knowledge is one of the best investments you can make in your career.
