Hi guys, Božidar here, hypnosis and hypnotherapy.
Today I want to talk about a very interesting question:
Can you understand a foreign language in hypnosis?
But before I explain, let me give you one simple example.
Imagine you have a good friend in Russia. You don’t speak Russian, he doesn’t speak your language, so you communicate in English. One day you visit him in Moscow, and he tells you: “We have a great hypnotist here. Everybody who goes to him quits smoking.”
You are struggling with cigarettes, so you decide to try it.
You go there, you don’t understand a single word the hypnotist is saying, but you follow his movements, close your eyes, and after 30 minutes everything is done.
The next day… no desire for cigarettes.
Another day… still nothing.
And suddenly, you are a non-smoker.
So how is this possible?
The key point is this:
The real suggestion didn’t come from the hypnotist.
It came from your friend.
He told you: “This works.”
And that was enough.
This is what we call social hypnosis. It’s very similar to placebo. The belief, the expectation, the idea goes directly into the subconscious.
You don’t need hours of hypnosis. Sometimes one strong suggestion is enough.
Now, I wanted to test this in real life.
Years ago, around 2010–2012, I did an experiment with a large international group during my training in Slovenia.
We had people speaking different languages:
Italian
Slovenian
German
Arabic
Sardinian dialect
regional Italian dialects
The idea was simple:
Pair people who do not understand each other and let them do hypnosis on each other.
No shared language.
And the result was very interesting.
Every single person reported going into hypnosis deeper than usual.
Why?
Because they tried to understand the words… failed… and then simply let go.
And when that happens, the conscious mind steps aside very quickly.
Even more interesting:
They followed suggestions they did not understand.
For example:
raise your arm
move your hand
even identity suggestions
All given in a foreign language.
And they responded correctly.
Not because they understood the words, but because they followed:
tone
rhythm
intention
and internal expectation
This shows something very important.
Hypnosis is not about words only.
It’s about:
communication beyond language
subconscious processing
acceptance of suggestion
This experiment was one of the most interesting I’ve done, and I have it recorded. Maybe in the future I will prepare it with subtitles so you can see it.
If you are working with hypnosis, I really recommend you try something similar. It gives you a completely different understanding of how hypnosis actually works.
So next time someone asks you:
“Do I need to understand the language in hypnosis?”
The answer is:
Not necessarily.
What matters is the suggestion, the context, and the subconscious response.
That’s it for today.
If you want to learn more about hypnosis and how it really works, follow my channel. I have many more experiments and real cases to share.
Be well.
